- Two overhauls, one by my usual KTM dealer (made me not so happy this time), another by a fellow KTM LC8 rider who did what the KTM dealer should have done and improved the rallye setup.
- To reduce heat and weight I’ve changed the original exhausts to something more lightweight from Poland. That was crappy, holes for bolts not standing in parallel, impossible to mount them tightly, several bolt falling out within the first 500km. I replaced them with MIVV Storm GP, less heat and weight than the originals, a bit too loud for my taste. Now I’m looking into further reducing weight by going 2:1 and omitting the left side.
- To increase fuel range I put on a 30l Safari tank.
- 32cm x 32cm Hattech back plate.
- For baggage I grabbed Enduristan equipment: Sandstorm tank bag, Monsoon soft bags mounted to a Touratech rack for Zegas and a Tornado roll mounted to the back plate.
- GIT bash plate for lower protection.
- Shorter gear transmission ration: 15:45.
- Customized seat for the long distance. Turned out to be less than perfect due to a misunderstanding between me and the maker.
- Added MDS roadbook equipment and 2 ICOs on the front.
- Added a Garmin Montana.
- Added rim locks to the wheels.
- Initially I had mounted Continental Trail Attack 2 and wanted use them up. It turned out in dry gravel they are much better than I expected, I could easily keep up with knobbly tired KLRs. I changed to Pirelli Scorpion MT21 after two weeks when the rains came and I expected rougher terrain riding with some people. I think eventually I’ll switch to Pirelly Scorpion Rallye tires near the start of my trip (those were my favourites all along but were on backorder, not obtainable quickly).
